Swallowing Prey: Snake Anatomy

Snakes able to open their mouths wider than their head due to their flexible lower jawstructure. The snake then uses its powerful muscles to push its prey down its throat and into its stomach. This process is aided by the snake’s saliva which lubricates the prey, allowing it to slide down more easily.
